Reimagining a 21st century media company

A media empire centered on print (newspapers) was laying off 2,000 people every two months when Elena was asked to join, as the Change expert, the team building a business case for its transformation via workplace change across 400+ locations globally; a business case that both promised and delivered a 1.7-year payback.

Elena provided change definition, business case development, stakeholder engagement, change management and communications, training development and delivery of the Evolving Our Workplace program. She instituted a rolling survey, a testing and demonstration site, self-awareness and facilitation training for all managers, and a personalisation initiative that converted the OH&S-mandated $60/pp for a backpack into points that afforded all staff choice from a range of laptop skins, sleeves, bags, and locker trinkets on a custom portal.

During a critical time in the organization’s battle with the changing media landscape, Elena helped craft the business case for transforming how the organization worked while cutting costs and future-proofing it. Following business case development and approval, she designed a high-leverage workplace, communications, and change strategy to support the proposed 1.7 year economic payback and then drove its implementation and the imbedding of these changes into ‘business as usual.’  The transformation program won awards for innovation on a tight budget.
